Morning mix of news

2009-07-12 11:34:05 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

We have found some news in the Internet:

eCo Labs - removed unnecessary tasks

2009-07-05 15:23:05 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

Here is the list of programs which you can improve

eCo Software is obligated to fulfil the obligations and deliver improved shareware products. One of the methods - create additional modules and utilities to enforce main projects.

eCo Labs is a fund to attract new developers to eComStation. We are trying to share the income with standalone developers; stimulate the development of new PM-controls and libraries. Moreover, we are going update the portal for developers and enrich it with links and libraries.

Firefox 3.5 testing

2009-07-04 12:18:34 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [os2.de]

New version is released, download from: ftp.netlabs.org, www.mozilla.org

This application is an experimental, inofficial build of the Firefox-3.5 release candidate 2 by Walter Meinl .

It was created from HG tag FIREFOX_3_5rc2_RELEASE 25999:dbb1982adfab. The build was done with GCC 4.4.0 dated 2009-04-26 using -static-libgcc (therefore, no gcc440.dll is needed). The build could only be completed adding a patch to nss that fixes a typo (bug 487567).

I also added HTML5 audio and video support, which is one of the enhancements of the 3.5 release over 3.0. Thanks to Rich Walsh, who made the work in bug 448918 (currently the patches are in review). Broader testing of these patches will help to identify problems (if any ;)).

GCC 4.4.0 does not produce a useful ipluginw.dll. Therefore it was recompiled using GCC 3.4.6.

Advice for all web-browsers in eComStation: install Microsoft fonts (the internet is oriented on Microsoft), 2. How to setup fonts in web-browser?

ACPI 3.15, 3.16 in BETAZONE

2009-07-03 23:53:26 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

What is ACPI? read short text

You can download ACPI 3.15, 3.16 packages from BETAZONE.

1) Whatsnew:

  • Pay attention to "polling" switch (acpi.cfg), enable it by default
  • updated Intel source code (2008/12)
  • Improved support of Thinkpad notebooks

2) What to test?

  • If previous version of ACPI works for you then test the latest one, post the report for ACPI DB
  • If previous version doesn't work, new version works then post this information to ACPI DB
  • If you have a problem with boot/work then post the report to ACPI bug-tracker
  • how to test notebook? list of tests -> Group 2: Test running machine
  • users with AMD chipset - try boot with: PSD=ACPI.PSD /SMP /!NOD /SAP:0x10

3) Current plan:

  • continue to resolve the tickets assinged to the current milestone.
  • implement suspend/resume for SMP APIC

Only the current version of ACPI is supported (the development of ACPI continues, that's why we can't support old versions).

4) New utilities (require the latest eCo Software runtime)

  • ACPI DB (a dozen of reports are missing) - The database contains tricks and tips how to setup your model of notebook/barebone to work with ACPI. Fill the form if ACPI works (doesn't work at all) on your PC.
  • ACPI Setup -- BETAZONE, (replaces Power object) requires the latest eCo Software runtime.

The team of developers and designers have invested huge efforts into Sunny icons (Sunny Icons whatsnew), Current plan of work: sort icons; draw additional 20-30 icons;

How to support SunnyIcons in 2009?

  • Post Testimonials on the site, collect bug-reports;
  • Purchase our shareware programs
  • Help us to purchase hardware (sponsor units)

Do you need new features and applications?

2009-06-28 02:49:17 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

The development of eComStation 2.0 components was started in 2001, to create the next version of eComStation it's necessary research current requirements of users first.

  • Perfect eComStation (users need recovery tools, fast boot, installer improvements, support of hardware, better USB support, better multimedia, system files protection, etc)
  • I need new applications (users need internet phones, editors, catalogues, ODBC, vocabularies, etc)

Users need more software:

Mozilla developers wanted!

2009-06-26 22:27:56 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [os2voice, Christian Hennecke ]

The existing developers who are working on the Mozilla line of products for OS/2 and eComStation, i.e., Firefox, Thunderbird, and SeaMonkey, are looking for help.

According to Peter Weilbacher, they no longer have the resources to follow all the changes done to the Mozilla code on OS/2. This has already been a problem for FF 3.5 (and the reason why @font-face doesn't work) and will be even more true for the version after that. In addition, Peter hasn't had a stable OS/2 enviroment over the last months, which has made building and development hard.

If you have good C and C++ skills, you are welcome to join the team. Please be aware that Mozilla apps are rather complex, so contributing calls for a longer commitment and some dedication. If you are willing to follow through with this, please use the mozilla.dev.ports.os2 news group to contact the existing developers. The group is available at news.mozilla.org and many other news servers.

90 Minute Movie about OS/2 and eComStation planed

2009-06-16 01:26:04 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [eComStation@yahoogroups.comDESPAM]

Sigurd Fastenrath posted a message to http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/eComStation/

"I am going to plan a 90 minutes video movie about OS/2 and ecomstation. I will use better eqiupment and a lot of other enhancements for it. It will be something completly different from what you have seen on Youtube. There will be a german and an englisch/international version. Release date is planed at Warpstock Europe.

I think I will need 90 Minutes to explain much more about the historay from OS/2 to eCS and have more time to show some details of eComstation.

I do not want to make a commercial, it will be more like an information video.

So, before I start to write the scipt here is the chance for all of you to make your suggestions and thoughts that you may want to see in them movie.

A Question to Mensys/Serenity: Do you mind if I plan to do so? Do you have special thoughts/needs you need to talk about? Would you like to have an interview in there? I probably would visit Mensys for this, The Netherlands is not that fare awy from germany... :-)

Yes, i know, for some of you that may sound crazy or megalomaniac, but we will see.

I will keep you informed form time to time!"

What do you think? Let's collect ideas here!
