Q-54: Resolving troubles with TCP/IP Internet doesn't work: * Check that you have IP-address. ifconfig (Windows: ipconfig) * Can you resolve the hosts? utilities: host, nslookup, dig, ping * ping a host/default gateway: ping, arping * check ARP cache: arp -an * Do you have DNS-servers: eComStation - file: \mptn\etc\resolv2 (Unix: /etc/resolv.conf) * check the routing table: nestat -rn (Linux: route) Moreover: * eComStation: tracerte (Windows: trracert, Unix: traceroute), tcptracerpute, mtr * check the cables, gigabyte network requires special cables. Crooked cable maybe damaged What to do? * problems with DNS -> IP address, DNS servers, table of routing * No IP: ARP cache, link status, cabling * No internet: check routing * TCP/UDP: netio, netcat, .. * all other problems - tcmdump (thx Adrian Gschwend) B-ENG-NET-1240, 20091231 |
